Grading Questions

Crown combines advanced imaging systems and AI-assisted analysis with human grading review.

AI-assisted systems help evaluate factors such as:

Centering
Surface consistency
Edge quality
Corners
Print characteristics
Visual anomalies

Every card is still reviewed and verified by human graders to help ensure consistency, accuracy, and quality control.

Cards are evaluated across multiple categories, including:

Centering
Corners
Edges
Surface quality
Print quality
Overall eye appeal

Crown grading standards are designed to reward authentic condition while maintaining consistency and transparency.

Yes. Crown includes subgrades as part of the grading process.

Subgrades provide collectors with a more detailed breakdown of a card’s condition across multiple grading categories.

Many factors may impact a card’s final grade, including:

Surface scratching
Print lines
Edge wear
Corner wear
Centering issues
Dents or impressions
Factory defects
Stains or residue
Whitening
Gloss inconsistency
Handling damage

Some defects may only become visible under magnification or angled lighting.

Crown utilizes a combination of advanced tools to identify signs of alteration:

High-resolution imaging
Angled lighting analysis
Microscopic review
Reflectivity analysis
AI-assisted review systems
Human verification

Not all alterations are detectable, but Crown continuously refines its review process as technology evolves.

Crown evaluates cards for authenticity as part of the grading process.

Cards determined to be counterfeit, altered beyond acceptable standards, or otherwise non-genuine may receive an inauthentic or altered designation.

🛡️  Section 03

Surface Integrity Questions

Crown recognizes that collectors may carefully remove loose debris or contaminants prior to submission.

However, methods intended to improve appearance, conceal wear, restore gloss, fill scratches, or artificially enhance surface quality may be considered alteration.

Collectors are encouraged to review Crown’s full Surface Integrity Standards prior to submission.

Alteration may include:

Trimming
Recoloring
Chemical treatment
Polishing
Surface enhancement
Scratch filling
Gloss modification
Restoration
Any process intended to artificially improve condition or eye appeal

Crown evaluates both observable results and apparent intent when reviewing potential alterations.

Collectors should avoid:

Chemical cleaners
Polishing compounds
Waxes
Oils
Abrasive materials
Scratch fillers
Gloss-enhancing products
Restoration agents

These materials may alter the original characteristics of the collectible and may impact grading outcomes.

Cards exhibiting evidence of alteration, restoration, or artificial enhancement may receive designations such as:

Altered
Surface Enhanced
Restored
Evidence of Chemical Treatment

Designation decisions are made at Crown’s discretion based on observed characteristics during the grading process.

Shipping & Turnaround Questions

Turnaround times may vary depending on:

Submission volume
Service tier
Seasonal demand

Estimated turnaround windows are displayed during the submission process; however, all estimates are subject to change.

Cards should be packaged securely to prevent movement or damage during transit.

Crown recommends:

Penny sleeves
Semi-rigid holders or card savers
Proper padding
Sturdy outer packaging

Avoid excessive tape, loose cards, or packaging methods that may increase handling risk.

Return shipping insurance options may vary depending on declared value and selected shipping methods.

Customers are encouraged to insure high-value submissions appropriately prior to shipment.

Crown is not responsible for packages lost or damaged in transit prior to arrival.

Once received and checked into the Crown system, submitted items fall under Crown’s internal handling procedures.

Customers are strongly encouraged to:

Use tracking
Purchase insurance
Retain shipment documentation
🗄️  Section 05

Database & Population Reports

Cards graded by Crown may be searchable through the Crown Database using:

Certification number
Card name
Set
Other identifying information

Database functionality and search tools may continue to expand over time.

Cards are typically added to the database after grading and processing are completed.

Processing times may vary depending on submission volume and operational workflow.

Population reports track the number of cards graded within specific categories, grades, and subgrade combinations.

These reports help collectors better understand relative scarcity and grading distribution across the Crown ecosystem.
